The Art of Leo Bates
Leo Bates was an English artist and book illustrator associated with the Golden Age of Illustration.
His first major suite of illustrations was published in Where the Rainbow Ends (1920) - a literary adaptation of the popular
play for children written by Clifford Mills and John Ramsey. A further major suite of images was published four years later
in Songs for Youth (1924) - a collection of verse from Rudyard Kipling.
Bates experienced few other major commissions for book illustrations in the remainder of his career, but did contribute
artwork for book covers and various frontispieces.
